New deadline for projects July 31
The first burst of monsoon has made the civic agencies re-think about their tall claims of finishing the Commonwealth Games-2010 related projects by July 15. The new deadline has been pushed further by a fortnight. A visit to the trans-Yamuna areas by two Delhi government ministers — A.K. Walia and Arvinder Singh Lovely — revealed that a lot of work on street-scaping and removing the construction debris was to be done.
The ministers found out that the number of people on job were less and instructed both the MCD and the PWD to get the necessary works completed by the month-end by deploying extra manpower and resources. The claims of the MCD and the PWD that roads are being strengthened and improved, along with drainage, is already being questioned in the wake of the caving-in of roads and potholes resurfacing on many newly improved roads following the showers on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, expressing displeasure over delay in Games-related projects, Delhi urban development and finance minister Walia on Thursday exhorted the authorities to deploy more workers to complete the work by the end of this month. Dr Walia was also unhappy about mounds of garbage lying over the roads leading to the Games Village.

Only appreance of Delhi might change for a little while. Not a single poor Indian will benefit. The miserable condition and number of Indian poor is even worse than the Sub-Saharan desert.
