Punjab cops held for helping accused flee
The special cell of Delhi police has arrested four head constables and a constable of Punjab police for allegedly facilitating the escape of two accused in a visa racket case from Ludhiana Jail.
The accused, identified as Satwinder Singh, Swaroop Singh, Paramjeet Singh, Richpal Singh and constable Sunil Kumar were arrested from police lines in Ludhiana.
The accused had allegedly prepared fake production warrants of a Delhi court which allowed the accused, Vipin Sharma, 34, and his brother-in-law, Aman Alam, 26, come out of the jail. The police said Sharma and Alam were arrested on May 18.
“Satwinder, Swaroop and Sunil Kumar allegedly took Sharma out of the Ludhiana jail and the other two took Aman Alam on November 2 on the pretext of court appearance. The duo told the policemen that they would pay each Rs 20,000 per day till they return. They promised them that they will come before November 7 when they were to return to Ludhiana Jail,” a source in special cell said.
The duo however did not return and the police could not locate them. However, Kumar and Alam were arrested by Delhi police on November 6 from IGI airport and GT Karnal Road, respectively, on a tip off. “Their arrests blew off the lid on the network,” a senior police official said.
