Rains submerge capital
The city received 89.3 mm of rain, which was the heaviest downpour of the month, since Thursday morning and the city virtually sunk under water. The civic agencies, though claiming that they tried their best, seemed helpless particularly in the wake of the fact that the city continues to remain dug up for the Commonwealth Games.
There were more than 100 complaints of water logging due to rain, 23 complaints of trees or parts of trees falling down and 11 complaints of buildings or their portions collapsing. Six persons were injured in two separate incidents of house collapse reported from Sangam Vihar and Gandhi Nagar.
Motorists in the New Delhi area, particularly in Connaught Place, had a harrowing time negotiating through traffic jam. At Jaswant Singh Road, where a cave-in had occurred on Wednesday, near Ashok Road in New Delhi, a huge pothole created problems for motorists The situation was no better in various other areas like Ashram, ITO, DND flyway, Karol Bagh, Palam, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Mehrauli-Badarpur, Mehrauli-Gurgaon, Vasant Vihar, Rohtak Road, Jawaharlal Nehru stadium and various others intersections and major and minor arterial roads. Broken down vehicles, motorcyclists parking their bikes on road to protect themselves from rain, traffic lights going on the blink, construction debris blocking the bell mouths of storm water drains and flooded underpasses added to the chaos.

After more than 50 years of Independence the state of the roads shows the mindset of the politicians & the extent of corruption. Would you ever see them on these roads?

India receives enough rain water to make it a rich nation. But due to improper management we are suffering. In this divisional headquarter potable water is supplied for one hour on alternate, at very odd time in many localities and not available without eclectic pump in some areas.
