Highs and lows make life special

I am not physically fit and feel a complex in front of the camera while acting. Can you please guide me on how can I do better?

A. My dear, you are asking a man who was balding before he got his first film. Acting has nothing to do with physical appearance. Yes, in this world of insecurity, we could be bogged down by various things but you are not the only one who is insecure. Even the ones who are physically fit are insecure. It’s just that we attribute that insecurity to qualities that we believe may be our shortcomings.
Sometimes insecurity drives you. The passion that you see in various actors is his/her nervousness or insecurity. I believe in optimism. I believe that it’s okay to feel low or insecure or unhappy. It’s life. The highs and lows make it special. If actors were actors only because of the way they looked, most of the actors in the world would have never been actors. It’s the personality, mind, passion, drive, hard work, talent that makes them who they are.

I’m a 30-year-old woman, working with a publication house. My baby is above a year old. While I have managed to balance both work and home till now, it’s getting really difficult by the day. I don’t want to quit my job. Can you suggest what can I do?

A. Hats off to you for balancing your work and home. Hats off to all the women in the world who do so. I hope a lot of men are reading this too. I want you to ask your husband to share equal responsibility at home. Also, a kid needs warmth and love and security, so you could request other members of your family like your parents or your husband’s parents to help you with the same.
I’m sure your job is tough. But you must always remember to get those few hours once a week to rejuvenate. I don’t think you should lose out on the joy of having a kid and have the strength to balance your work. Same with your whole family. Wish you joy. Make sure joy, love and rest is what all of you get and give the child the most you can. I’m sure your husband and family will agree when they read this. Enjoy your life with your family. All the best.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
