Hair and there: Tressed to kill
The World Cup is a showcase of the best football on the planet. It has often also been a platform for the launch of many an eye-catching hair-do. From Guiseppe Meazza, who burst goalwards without a single brylcreemed hair out of place, to the man with the craziest mane in Germany 2006 — the unfortunately named Manuel Loco of
Angola — who shaved of his entire head save a few strands on the front which resembled the limbs of a tarantula spider. At the World Cup everyone is ‘tressed’ to kill.
Here’s a look at the good, the bad and the ugly, as far as World Cup hair-dos are concerned. Worthy of a special mention are the Gheorge Hagi-led Romania squad at France ’98. Giving new meaning to the term one for all, all for one, the entire squad dyed their hair bleach blonde in a show of a solidarity ahead of their last Group match against Tunisia.
Needing a point to qualify for the knockout stages, the blonde hair worked like a charm as Romania held on for a draw.
