Polish minister offers to resign after football washout
Poland's sports minister has offered her resignation over the weather-enforced delay of this month's football World Cup qualifier between England and Poland here.
The match at the Olympic Stadium was postponed by a day when the venue's retractable roof was left open during heavy rain that made the pitch unplayable.
"I feel political responsibility in connection with the cancellation of the match, even though I couldn't actually have done anything," Sports Minister Joanna Mucha said Wednesday.
She added that she had informed Prime Minister Donald Tusk of her intention.
In the wake of the cancellation, Tusk instructed a government commission to investigate the incident. The 58,000-capacity stadium was built on the site of a former athletics venue to host Euro 2012.
