Sharp and Samsung are good buys in the `22,000 to 25,000 range. Sharp has a long standing in the electronic segment. Samsung too has proved its worth. Sony is a good buy in the `25,000 to 30,000 range. Ensure that the model is HD compatible or Full HD, and has a minimum of two USB ports.

Let the games begin!
The Gaming world is all set to merge with the AV world. Video games gained momentum with the runaway Hit Pacman developed by Namco. A funny simply animated creature is the hero. He moves all over the screen through a maze gobbling pacs and blue enemies, Pacman is a classic icon of the 80s, and is among the most famous arcade games of all time.
So the video games which initially flagged off with an animation game with a simple herod have evolved into the most amazing 3D games with ‘Super Avatars’ fighting for supremacy. And now, video gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry. What started off as a simple pastime has now zoomed to other activities. The gaming hardware has morphed into amazing gadgets. And with the innovative software and applications available, one can simulate cars, musical instruments, tennis and other games which defy imagination and give a true feel of the real thing.
These fun gadgets have now crossed over into the medical field. A classic example is the Nintendo Wii game where motion–sensing technology allows you to move around the characters with the movements of your limbs — no joystick, no mouse. This game can be an excellent physiotherapy tool for people suffering from motor function or injury-related disabilities. The gaming gadgets have now leapt into other arenas with game related gizmos. You can now browse the web with just a wave of your hand.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
