Stretch out like the Sphinx for stronger back muscles
Here are some poses that are a part of the intense balance series.
The Sphinx pose: Lie down on your stomach with your feet together. Now, place your elbows in front of your chest and gently lift up your upper body from navel upwards. Keep your palms next to each other, facing down. As you inhale, lift your left foot slowly off the floor and at the same time, also lift your right hand upwards. Stretch out your
left leg and right hand straight and try to balance without bending your elbow or knee. Do not lift your pelvis upwards. Keep your hips straight. Hold this position for 20 seconds and then repeat with the other leg. Do two sets on each side.
Benefits: This is an excellent pose to strengthen the erector spinal muscles relieving weakness or pain in the back. It also helps to strengthen the upper back and balances the shoulder muscles. This pose also gently massages the muscles in the centre of your navel, which helps to keep the internal organs and the urinary tract healthy.
