Yoga to improve stamina and performance

Yoga and breathing exercises will help increase your stamina and performance. Suryanamaskar (sun salutation postures) can prevent stiffness in your back, legs and ankles. It also takes away all the tiredness and helps distribute energy, oxygen and blood to every part of the body.

Many fitness buffs start their exercise without a proper warm-up which could lead to severe injury. Whether you are doing weight training or jogging or tennis or yoga, begin by doing a warm-up. I mean, an active yoga warm-up (not a lazy warm-up) for at least 10 to 15 minutes, preparing your mind and body for the physical activity. This will boost your interest and increase your enthusiasm to exercise.
For those with a predilection for weight training in order to build muscles, make sure you do not over-train or carry more weight than your capacity.
This can cause wear and tear of your muscles and tendons. I remember my dad saying, ‘It is nothing great if you are in great shape in your 20s but it’s greater, if you are in great shape even in your 40s.’
Think long-term when you exercise.
You see people going to the gym like they are going to a torture camp. It shows clearly that they will discontinue exercising in a short period of time.
Make sure you do what you like doing. In this way, you will be consistent in doing exercise all your life!
‘You are the unique masterpiece of the divine art.’ Just be yourself and do what you like and enjoy exercising. Many people tire by just thinking about exercise because they do not have goals. What you want to be by exercising? Do you want to be fit and healthy or do you want to participate in a competition?

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
