Do not split votes: Goud to BJP, TRS
TNGOs’ leader Swami Goud on Saturday advised the TRS and BJP leadership to sort out their differences and ensure that only one party contests the Parkal byelection on the Telangana plank. “In the interest of the Telangana movement and as desired by the people of the region, leaders of the rival parties should sit together and sort out the differences. I feel that only one party should contest the election,” Mr Goud said.
He said he would request Telangana leaders like TJAC convener M. Kodandaram, MLC Chukka Ramaiah and others to mediate and sort out the differences between the TJAC members. The TJAC is scheduled to meet on April 23. “The Mahbubnagar incident should not be repeated. The TRS and the BJP are TJAC members and are fighting for Telangana. They should not contest against each other. Only one candidate should be fielded by either of the parties," Mr Goud said.
Some TRS leaders had alleged that the TJAC did not extend cooperation to party candidate Ibrahim in Mahbubnagar bypoll, which led to his defeat and victory of BJP nominee Srinivas Reddy. Fresh from the victory in Mahbubnagar, the BJP has decided to contest Parkal bypoll alone. The TRS too has decided to contest and had successfully convinced the CPI to support it.
