It was ‘bye-bye poll’ for Congress
Twitter on Friday came alive with discussions on the results of the state byelections.
People started tweeting results and predictions right from Friday morning when the earliest leads came in. The majority of the Twitterati was not really impressed by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s landslide victory in the bypolls and viewed it as a “victory for corruption”.
“Dear people, AP bypolls show corruption isn’t a factor for people while voting! Anna Hazare ghar ko jao!” said a tweet.
In fact, many preferred to look at the results as routing of the Congress and a big blow to Sonia Gandhi in particular.
The Kadapa MP’s supporters, however, were jubilant. Some of them proudly reported of seeing a placard outside one of YSR Congress offices that read: “A lion inside a cage is still a lion.”
But the best tweets were mostly in a lighter vein, which still carried the mood of the polls.
One such tweet said: “AP bypolls turned out to be bye-bye polls for the Congress, time to shift focus to presidential poll.”
Another that stood out was: “Poetic Justice? The family that got you (Congress) to power can also get you out of it!”
Political parties did not show any activity on the social networking arena as the ones who had presence lost badly. On the other hand, the YSRC, which recorded landslide victories, had no social media presence.
Surprisingly, the result of the bypoll in one seat in Kerala, which was won by the Congress, was also trending on Twitter.
