Poll tickets on merit: Ravi
Congress high command emissary Vayalar Ravi, who met Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi on Wednesday, said candidates with good chances of winning would get tickets in the forthcoming bypolls to 18 Assembly constituencies. “Mr Chiranjeevi is one of the top-level leaders of the Congress, not only in the state, but at the national-level too. He has to play an important role in the party,” Mr Ravi said, referring to the forthcoming byelections.
The two leaders had a breakfast meeting at Mr Chiranjeevi’s residence, during which a range of issues were discussed, including the party’s status; the strategy to be adopted in the bypolls, the Jagan factor and the lack of coordination between the party and the government, among others. Mr Ravi was asked about the complaints by leaders of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam that they were being ignored. “The PR has merged with the Congress, it is not a coalition partner. Merger is a slow process. It will have to take place at every level. It will take so-me time. We will look into the grievances,” Mr Ravi said.
