Shadow cops to keep tabs on contestants
The state police has set up teams that will follow all candidates contesting in Tuesday’s bypolls and keep tabs on their movements.
The “shadow” teams comprising armed policemen will follow each candidate throughout the day. Many police personnel have also been deployed in all 18 Assembly and one Parliamentary constituencies. Strike forces and mobile teams have also been formed.
Apart from the AP Special Police, armed reserve and local police, around 140 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the poll districts. A DSP rank official has been posted at each mandal and an IPS official will supervise law and order arrangements for each Assembly constituency. The situation will be monitored from the DGP’s office in the city and focus was on constituencies bordering neighbouring states in Kurnool, Srikakulam, Anantapur and Nellore. Checkposts have also been set up for the bypolls.
