Symbol similarities worry KCR
Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao is a worried man. With the Election Commission allotting free electoral symbols such as railway engine, road-roller and auto-rickshaw, among others, to candidates in the forthcoming bypolls, Mr Rao is apprehensive that such symbols, identical to his party symbol of a ‘car’, would lead to confusion, and eventually cross-voting in the Parkal bypoll.
“Election symbols such as hat, rail engine, auto and road-roller are quite similar to the TRS election symbol (car). They may be different objects but their images on either print or electronic ballot appears to be blurred,” he said. “It may be due to this (printed symbols) or literacy levels, voters are (often) not able to distinguish between these symbols and get confused while casting their vote.” Referring to the recent bypolls in Mahbubnagar and other places, Mr Rao said there was unintentional cross-voting in which TRS lost a large number of votes.
