The Telugu Desam suffered one of its worst-ever setbacks on Friday, failing to win a single seat in the June 12 bypolls.

It came second in 10 Assembly seats but failed to retain its deposit in five others.

Mr Naidu has convened a politburo meeting on Saturday to discuss the rout. Mr Naidu’s biggest problem is that his party leaders do not have a clue why it lost in every seat it contested.

However, speaking to this newspaper, Mr Naidu blamed the outcome on the Congress government mishandling the Jagan Mohan Reddy issue.

“The YSR Congress won the elections due to the sympathy wave generated after his arrest,” he remarked.
