13 parties supporting July 5 bandh: Sharad
Claiming an unprecedented unity of the Opposition parties, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Friday appealed to all the trade unions, youth organisations to lend their support to the July 5 Bharat Bandh called by more than 13 parties. However, the RJD-LJP in Bihar combine and BSP in UP have gone separate ways to protest the hike in the petroleum products.
Mr Yadav listed the BJP, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, JD-U, CPI-M, CPI, Forward Block, RSP, AIADMK, PMK, MDMK TDP, BJD, JD(S), AGP, Akali Dal and INLD as political parties supporting the July 5 Bharat Bandh. The JD(U) chief also stated that the NDA will hold its meeting on Sunday to give final shape to the protest on the following day across the country.
The BSP will be holding protest on July 6, while the RJD-LJP combine has given a call for Bihar Bandh on July 10.
“Had the government been serious about tackling the price rise, we would not have taken the step to call for Bharat Bandh. The government will be making all attempts to crush the Opposition but it will not succeed,” Mr Yadav told reporters.
He also rejected the contention that it was the NDA government which it initiated the de-control of the petroleum products.
“In the times of the NDA regime the inflation was about two per cent, which is now in the double digit. Now there are reports that the Prime Minister is contemplating to give subsidy to the farmers. This country is being left at the mercy of the market forces and sky (referring to rains),” Mr Yadav stated.
About the proposed Bharat Bandh on July 5, Mr Yadav stated that all preparations have been made and it will be a historic one.
“We are working on a war footing to bring everyone together and are talking to trade unions, traders bodies, youth organisations and student bodies to get their support for the bandh,” said Mr Yadav.
All essential services like supply of water, milk, electricity, hospital and emergency services will be exempt from the purview of the bandh, which will also not disturb traffic, added Mr Yadav.

Political Parties approach bandh as a way to show their strength. It affects the public and leads to a huge economic loss for our country. There are many other ways to protest.
