Bengal CPM bosses corner Karat

For the first time, top West Bengal CPI(M) leaders on Sunday openly questioned the line set by party general secretary Prakash Karat and felt it was time the CPI(M)’s central leadership admitted its “electoral blunders”.
Sources said chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, state CPI(M) secretary Biman Bose and state industry minister Nirupam Sen, discussing the West Bengal civic poll rout at a politburo meeting here (ahead of the August central committee meeting), said “if we are willing to admit our mistakes, why isn’t the central leadership doing so?” The sources said they also pointed out that it was the line set by the central leadership, particularly Mr Karat, which was the main cause for the resurgence of Trinamul Congress leader Mamata Banerjee. It is learnt that they also emphasised that it was “not right” for the party to try shift the blame for the rout to the West Bengal administration.
The Bengal leaders also questioned Mr Karat’s attempts to cobble together a “third alternative” after cutting off links to UPA-1, saying it was now evident that the electorate had “rejected the Karat brand of electoral politics”.
It is learnt that there was “silence” at the politburo meeting after the West Bengal leaders demanded that the central leadership “admit its political errors”. It may be recalled that Mr Karat has so far refused to accept any responsibility for the party’s recent electoral reverses, instead laying the blame on CPI(M) governments in West Bengal and Kerala. Following the recent civic poll debacle in West Bengal, Mr Karat said Mr Bhattacharjee’s “poor administration” was to blame, which unsurprisingly infuriated the chief minister. Party insiders, meanwhile, appear surprised that Mr Nirupam Sen joined hands with the CM in questioning the Karat line as he is known as a Karat loyalist, and many believe the general secretary “has been using him to disturb the CM”.

It is good for CPM party to

It is good for CPM party to get rid of leader like
Prakash Karat. His leadership quality is intelectually opportunistic.
