BJD leader suspended for backing Mohapatra
The ruling Biju Janata Dal on Wednesday suspended the party’s general secretary and spokesperson Jajneswar Babu from the party on charges “acting against the interest of the party.”
Mr Babu had recently joined Orissa Jana Morcha (OJM), a newly-launched political forum launched by suspended BJD Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra. He was even appointed as the spokesperson of the outfit. “BJD president Naveen Patnaik has suspended general secretary Jajneswar Babu from the primary membership of the party for anti-party activities,” a one-liner press statement issued by the party said.
Mr Babu, while hailing the decision, said he was not at all disturbed and would now focus more on addressing the grievances of the BJD workers.
“Under the banner of Orissa Jana Morcha, we have been trying to reform the BJD and strengthen it at the grassroots. The party is in morbidity. No meetings are being held at district levels to address the grievances of the party workers. I don’t repent for being suspended for working for the cause of party workers,” Mr Babu said.
Both Pyarimohan and Jajneswar Babu have been denying OJM is a separate political outfit.
