BMW crash ends teen’s life after birthday bash
Birthday boy Mohammed Abdul Shukoor Quadri’s celebrations turned tragic early on Wednesday morning when the BMW car the 18-year-old was travelling in crashed at Jubilee Hills. Quadri died while the other occupants of the car escaped with minor injuries.
Quadri, who was a Second Year Intermediate student of St Mary’s College at Yousufguda had been out with his friends celebrating his birthday. The BMW, driven by the victim’s friend, V. Raghu (17), was returning from Madhapur to Jubilee Hills when it hit a divider and then some bricks on the roadside at around 2.15 am.
Raghu and their third friend, S. Sunil (16), received minor injuries as they were in the front seats and were saved by the air bags but Quadri in the back seat was violently hurled against the sides of the car and was grievously injured.
Quadri’s family, residing at Road Number 12 in Banjara Hills was inconsolable with the sudden tragedy. His father, Waheed Quadri, owner of BNR Transport, had called his son at around 1.00 am and asked him to return home and they had been on their way back.
The Jubilee Hills police has booked a case against Raghu, son of Dr V. Rajagopal, a resident of Road Number 1 in Banjara Hills, under section 304 A IPC for rash and negligent act leading to the death of a person.
Investigating official Mr K. Srinivas said, “Raghu had no license and he was driving the new BMW car with the temporary registration number AP 09 UG T/R 9205.” Sunil and Raghu suffered minor injuries on the head and were shifted to Apollo Hospital at Jubilee Hills.
The accident took place in front of the Rangoli Showroom on Road Number 36 at Jubilee Hills.
Witness to the incident, S. Ramesh, an employee of CTI support system who was returning from work said, “The BMW zoomed past me. Suddenly I heard a huge bang and saw that the car had hit the bricks. After the mishap they were pulled out by passers-by and shifted in 108 Ambulance to the hospital.”
The victim’s cousin, M.A.M. Quadri said, “The whole family is shattered with his death. He had a sister who is married and stays in Dubai. She is returning home tonight. The last rites will be performed thereafter.”
Quadri had passed his Xth from Srinidhi School. “He never drove. One of the two drivers used to take him out. He was kind-hearted, friendly and everyone in the family and his friends loved him,” the cousin said.
A post-mortem examination was conducted by forensic doctors at the Osmania General Hospital mortuary.
