CBI names 6 ex-judges in PF scam chargesheet
The CBI on Saturday filed a chargesheet against six former judges, including three of the Allahabad high court, in connection with the Provident Fund scam of the Ghaziabad courts. Seventy-one other persons have also been named in the chargesheet.
The chargesheet, filed in the special court of A.K. Singh in Ghaziabad, named three former judges of Allahabad high court and three former district judges of Ghaziabad.
Sources in the agency said, “Investigations by the CBI revealed that 781 treasury cheques amounting to Rs 7.92 crores were issued in the names of Class IV employees of the district court, Ghaziabad, pertaining to GPF withdrawal during the period from April 2000 to February 2008. Out of 781 instances, 482 treasury cheques amounting to Rs 6.58 crores were drawn fraudulently.”
“The CBI probe also revealed that during the period 2001-08, Ashutosh Asthana, who died in Dasna jail under mysterious circumstances in 2009, while working as a bill clerk and central nazir, district court, Ghaziabad, allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with the then six judges and 71 others with the intention to cheat the district court and dishonestly withdrew Rs 6.58 crores from the district treasury as GPF withdrawals,” sources said.

The CBI should further investigate the account of those ex-judges and their kin and make out substantial evidence to ensure their conviction. No one should be given any leniency .
