Cong, BJP: Naveen must quit
The Opposition parties in Orissa on Wednesday demanded the resignation of chief minister Naveen Patnaik following quashing of land acquisition proceedings for proposed Vedanta University project near Puri by the Orissa high court on Tuesday.
“Naveen Patnaik should tender his resignation immediately as he has no moral right to continue in office even for a second following the high court judgment. The HC verdict has thoroughly exposed the Naveen Patnaik government’s real face. This government knows no business other than handling over jal, jungle and jamin (water, forest and land) of the state to private companies,” Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Bhupinder Singh said.
The two-member bench comprising Justice V. Gopal Gowda and Justice B.P. Das, while declaring the land acquisition proceedings for the project “illegal,” asked the state government to return the acquired land to the concerned individuals, organisations and agencies.
