Cong infighting led to defeat in Orissa
The Congress in Orissa has once again met the same fate: a crushing defeat in the hands of the ruling BJD. The signs of revival that was seen last year in its “Parivartan” rally at Mastercanteen Square here, seems to be existing no longer, if the results of the municipal elections are any indication.
The Congress candidates won from 325 wards, less than half of the BJD’s figure of 658. The BJP has finished the poor third with a tally of only 49. Political analysts attribute the Congress’ debacle to internecine feud among the party leaders. Senior leaders of the party continue to fight in the open.
