Cong in a spot over ministers
The Congress appears to have made a clear distinction between the NCP and rest of its allies sharing power at the Centre. While its leaders are criticising the NCP ministers on their performance, they are unable to evaluate performance of the Trinamul Congress and the DMK ministers. “Coalition is a compulsion and not a
dharma,” viewed a senior Congress leader when reporters drew his attention to the frequent railway accidents. They wanted to know why the Prime Minister cannot take away the railway ministry from Ms Mamata Banerjee and allot it to someone in the Trinamul Congress.
The Congress leaders are privately holding agriculture minister Sharad Pawar responsible for the price rise. This issue had even figured in the CWC meeting earlier. They had criticised him in his absence in the highest policy-making body. But none in the Congress wants to make assessment of Ms Banerjee’s performance or handling of the portfolios by communications and information technology minister A. Raja and chemicals and fertilisers minister M.K. Aligiri.
This is because the Congress has been junior partner in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Interestingly, non-Congress ministers at the Centre have become controversial in the UPA-2 and this suits the ruling party. Barring Mr Shashi Tharoor, no Congress minister has quit the government on a certain controversy. If the insiders are to be believed, the Congress is not keen on strengthening the UPA and its continuation for a third term. It will fight the coming Assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu along with the Trinamul Congress and the DMK but may not fight the Maharashtra polls in an alliance with the NCP.

Retention of non performing/ not so honest Ministers on the plea of compulsion is a myth. The real compulsion with Congress Party seems to be hunger for power of the top leaders and the vested interest around them. It is as simple as that.

Congress which criticises the BJP of corruption in Karnataka shields ministers like A. Raja. Raja's corruption is the biggest so far, yet no sign of him getting removed. How can the Congress talk about the BJP indulging in corruption?
