Father didn’t help Bitti: Kerala cops
The four-member Kerala police team which is currently in Orissa on Saturday said Bittihotra Mohanty alias Bitti’s father “Bidya Bhusan Mohapatra is innocent and there is no evidence to suggest that he helped his rape convict son to forge his certificates as Raghav Rajan.
The team headed by Josi Joseph, after quizzing Mr Mohanty, the Orissa director general of police, at the office of deputy commissioner of Police in Cuttack, said no evidences were also found that the former the DGP facilitated Bitti to evade law.
“I have nothing to say...the investigation is still on,” said Mr Mohanty while leaving DCP’s office.
Before questioning the retired IPS officer, the team met the present DGP Prakash Mishra at the state police headquarters in Cuttack and apprised him of the case following the arrest of a man Raghav Rajan at Kannur who police claimed was Bittihotra alias Bitti.
The investigating team questioned Mr Mohanty to find out whether he was aware about Bitti’s stay at Kannur in Kerala before his arrest on March 8. The senior Mohanty replied in negative, the police sources said.
The Kerala team, which on Thursday visited three educational institutions in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack where Bitti studied during his school and college days, has come to the conclusion that the certificates produced in the name of Raghav Rajan were forged.
The certificates bearing same number have been forged and the name Raghav Rajan has been inserted in place of Bitihotra. The private university, college and school authorities have also informed the visiting police team that they never had any student in the name of Raghav Rajan.
Bitti, convicted for raping a German woman, had allegedly forged his certificates and worked as a probationary officer in the State Bank of Travancore using the name Raghav Rajan at Kannur in Kerala before being arrested.
