Jat quota protest affects Haryana road, rail
Rail and road traffic was affected in parts of Haryana for the second day, mainly around Hisar, as the All- India Jat Arakshan Samiti, demanding inclusion of the jat community in the central OBC list, failed to reach any solution in their talks with the administration. The Jat Arakshan Samiti has extended their deadline given to the government by 24 hours on Monday evening, after which they are threatening to intensify their agitation.
President of Haryana Jat Sabha Dharampal Dhariwal said that “the talks with administration were inconclusive. Nothing concrete has come up during the talks. We have decided to extend our deadline by 24 hours. By that time our members are going to sit on both sides of the railway tracks. If talks fail, we will intensify our agitation”.
Meanwhile, Railway authorities on Monday cancelled some trains while the routes of few others have been diverted as the agitating members of the jat organisation sat on a dharna on both sides of the rail track in village Ramayan, about 15 km from Hisar.
The Railway authorities said that a decision to this effect has been taken as a precautionary measure following the agitation.
The Railway authorities said that all trains on the Rewari-Fazilka section and the Haryana Express train, running between Sirsa-Delhi, have been cancelled till further notice. All trains coming from Bathinda were terminated in Hisar and trains coming from Rewari and Jaipur were stopped at Bhiwani as the protest had affected train movement between Hisar and Bhiwani. Members of the jat community started their dharna near the railway track on Sunday evening, protesting delay in the decision to grant OBC status to jats for quota in jobs.
