Jethmalani talks of husband Ram, BJP stays silent

BJP MP Ram Jethmalani has embarrassed the saffron party yet again, as he described Lord Ram as a “bad husband” while he was speaking at a book launch here on Thursday afternoon. The veteran lawyer MP, who has been gunning for party president Nitin Gadkari recently, described Ram as a “bad husband”, and said: “I don’t like him at all”. The footage, aired on television, has now also gone viral on the social media.

Mr Jethmalani was shown on TV and social media as saying: “Ram was a bad husband. I don’t like him at all. How can you send a poor woman to vanvaas on the basis of what a fisherman said.” He continued: “Sita was then abducted by Ravan. Ram then asked Lakshman to find her since she was in his custody. Ram said ... So now you go and find her.”
Jethmalani went on: “Anyway Lakshman was a clever chap. Lakshman said: ‘Shri Ram, she was my bhabhi (sister-in-law)... I always looked at her feet. I have never even seen her face. I won’t be able to identify her...” Mr Jethmalani said these were tricks “human (beings) continue to play”.
There is as yet no reaction from the BJP, with the party’s spokespersons saying they cannot comment as they have not yet seen the footage.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
