Judicial probe into IPS man’s killing in M.P.
The Madhya Pradesh government, under attack from all sides after the killing of a young IPS officer, allegedly by the mining mafia, on Friday ordered a judicial probe into the murder of 30-year-old Narendra Kumar Singh.
Announcing the probe, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan urged the Opposition to stop playing “dirty politics”. The Congress sought a CBI inquiry, which was rejected.
Singh, a 2009 batch IPS officer, was crushed under the wheels of a tractor trolley driven by an alleged member of the mining mafia at Banmore in Morena district when he tried to stop the vehicle.
Keshav Dev, the slain officer’s distraught father, claimed it was a “well-planned conspiracy” against his son, who got no help from the local police and authorities. State DGP Nandan Dube, speaking to this newspaper after returning from the spot where the IPS officer was killed, said the tractor trolley’s owner-driver Manoj Gurjar had been arrested, and had claimed he was carrying the stones for personal use.
