MLA arrested at Mumbai airport

Congress MLA and mining magnate Santosh Lad was arrested from Mumbai international airport early on Thursday while he was on his way to Dubai. A lookout circular had been issued against Lad by the Delhi police after a Delhi-based company lodged a complaint of cheating against him.
Lad, who represents the Kalaghatgi constituency in Dharwad, has been on the Delhi police’s wanted list. Sources said Emaar-MGF had filed a complaint with economic offences wing of Delhi police in 2009, alleging that Lad had cheated them of Rs 7.5 crores in a land deal. A case of cheating was registered in Delhi but Lal failed to produce himself before a court.
Soon after his arrest, Mumbai police informed its counterparts in Delhi and a team of Delhi police’s crime branch was rushed to Mumbai.
“He was brought to the national capital and produced in a city court which remanded him to police custody. We are investigating the case and necessary action will be taken,” a source said.
At the Mumbai airport, Lad informed immigration officials that he was aware of the case lodged against him in the national capital, and maintained that he was in touch with the investigation officer.
He also said that he was trying to arrive at a compromise with the complainant.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
