Naveen calls meet as law & order worsens
Apparently shaken by numerous reports of rape and molestation pouring in from different parts of the state almost everyday, and the Opposition parties mounting pressure for his resignation, Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday called for an emergency meeting of senior officials and reviewed the law and order situation.
The meeting held in the secretariat was among others attended by chief secretary Bijay Patnaik, home secretary Bijay Patnaik, home secretary Upendra Nath Behera and director-general police Manmohan Praharaj. According to sources, the chief minister expressed his displeasure over the sudden spate in the atrocities against women, dalits, tribals and minorities in recent times. Besides, he also sought to know from the officers why complaints of the aggrieved were not registered immediately.
