NIA to probe maoist role in ambushes
A day after 14 Maoists were killed by the Orissa police near Padia in Malkangiri district, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and personnel from special investigation wings of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday arrived in the state to probe into the alleged links of the slain rebels in the May 25 Darbha Ghati attack and many other ambushes on security personnel.
The NIA and special investigating wings’ personnel met the Malkangiri district superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh and discussed about the identities of the rebels and their links. Sources said the all the slain rebels belonged to the local Kalimela Dalam.
“We are trying to identify the killed rebels. Preliminary inputs available with us suggest that they belong to the local Kalimela Dalam,” the SP Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh added that search operation was on to nab Rakesh, the Maoist leader who escaped the police raid on their camp on Friday night. DGP Prakash Mishra announced a reward of `2 lakh to each of the jawans who participated in the Friday night’s anti-Maoist operation.
