Opp furious over petro price hike
After announcing the price hike on fuel prices, the government on Friday was at the receiving end from the Opposition. Demanding a roll back of the price hike, the main Opposition party, the BJP, lambasted the government for further burdening the aam aadmi. It charged the Centre of pursuing an “unjustified fuel price hike”. Prakash
Javedkar, BJP’s national spokesperson said, “We demand an immediate rollback of today’s decision to hike fuel prices. The government has made a mockery of the people’s trust after winning the elections”. He further argued that when compared with international prices, fuel price in India is much higher than what it should be. Mr Javedkar emphasised that the government is unmindful of the common man.
He said, “The BJP condemns this decision. People are reeling under the cumulative effect of price rise. This government looks to be aiming at finishing the common man”.
The Left parties comprising the CPI, CPI(M), RSP and Forward Bloc while demanding the scrapping of the price hike, called on all the parties to jointly launch protests against the price rise. The Left parties have also planned to hold a convention of all trade unions on 15 July.
“The decision of the UPA government to inflict a steep rise in the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene oil and cooking gas is a cruel blow against the people who are already suffering due to the runaway increase in the prices of food and essential commodities,” the four Left parties said.
The UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati too criticised the Centre over the fuel price hike. She called it a “betrayal of sorts”. Calling for a roll-back of the price rise, she rebuked the government for having mislead the people just before the Lok Sabha elections by reducing the prices of petro-products.

It is strange that without suggesting any concrete solution to the unavoidable recent petro price hike announced by the ruling UPA government, the BJP and other opposition parties are staging bands, chakka jam and indulging in acts of arson in damagaing public property, thus causing great inconvenience to the public. The BJP, a major opposition party, is hell-bent to dislodge the ruling government, somehow and come to power at the Centre. But India being a democratic country where rule of law prevails, no government can be dislodged without following the parliamentary process.
