Sonia elected Congress prez
New Delhi, Sept. 3: Sonia Gandhi on Friday created history on being re-elected Congress president for a record fourth term after remaining in the top post for 12 long years. She is the fifth member of the Gandhi-Nehru family to lead the party once again. She vowed to keep the party flag always flying high.
“The post of Congress president is a very big responsibility towards the nation,” the 63-year-old Mrs Gandhi said as she was given the certificate of her victory by Mr Oscar Fernandes, chairman of the party’s central election authority.
“Since the beginning the Congress has been working for every section of society. Whether we are in government or not, we should not forget this big responsibility,” she said and stressed that they should always be conscious of this role. She said the Congress has always come up to the expectations of all sections of society and all parts of the country.
AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, however, could not make it due to prior engagements.

From the day Sonia Gandhi took over as the Congress party boss, none of the leader in the party with the exception of a very few ever indulged in corruption. So, I give her full marks for this. She was never seen as biased towards any particular religion and if left on to her she will never play ball with casteiszm.
