Berlusconi trounced in Italy referendums
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi suffered a trouncing in opposition-backed referendums on Monday, with more than 94 percent of voters casting their ballots to overturn key government policies.
The prime minister's planned return to nuclear power was scrapped indefinitely.
And in another direct blow to Berlusconi, voters also abolished a law intended to protect the prime minister from criminal prosecution.
Finally, they turned their back on government proposals over the privatisation of the nation's water supplies.
