3 die, 1 missing as boat capsizes in damodar river
Three people were killed and one was missing when a boat ferrying 11 people capsized in Damodar river on Friday night in Burudih area of Purulia.
Among the people on board, seven were rescued alive and rest were feared dead.
A group of around 32 people from Pathardih village of Raghunathpur block in Purulia boarded three small boats on their way to Jharkhand to attend a marriage party when one boat accidentally overturned. People from the other boats immediately conducted a rescue operation and managed to save the lives of seven people.
On Saturday, a disaster management team consisting of eight members from the Kolkata police fished out three bodies.
However, the body of Tarapada Malakar, a Madhyamik student was untraceable. Chief minister Mamata Bannerjee at Writers’ Buildings announced a compensation of `2 lakhs to the bereaved families.
