Bratya inspects Asansol site for Nazrul Varsity
State education minister Bratya Basu on Monday inspected the land earmarked in Asansol for the proposed Nazrul University. The 29.55 acre plot of land is located at Kalla More in Asansol North police station area. It is in close proximity to National Highway 2.
“There is absolutely no hurdles in the setting up of Nazrul University here. In fact, the construction of the campus and administrative work will begin next year and we expect to commence academic activities from the 2014 in the existing structure,” Mr Basu added.
He was accompanied by minister of state for health Chandrima Bhattacharya. The land belongs to the health department and that was the reason for Mr Bhattacharya’s presence.
There are two buildings on the land: leprosy clinic and public health centre. Mr Basu said that the leprosy clinic would be shifted to Barakar.
“The public health centre will, however, remain where it is for three years after which a decision will be taken about it,” he added.
Sixteen colleges which are at present affiliated to the Burdwan University will be initially brought under the new university.
