Kolkata girl is all-India ISC topper

City girl Shreya Daga has topped in the ISC examination securing 98.75 per cent marks. A Class 12 student of Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar, Shreya is the joint All-India topper along with another girl from Agra. For Shreya, this result has come as a pleasant surprise. “I had never thought of securing the first position in the country. Right

now, I am feeling on top of the world. I used to chalk out a routine for my studies but never preferred to study till late night,” Shreya said.
A movie-buff, Shreya had earlier secured 95.6 per cent in the ICSE examination. Her school principal Saratpriya Patjoshi was all praise for her. “Shreya has done the school proud. A sincere, modest and a studious child, Shreya had always been the topper in her classes since nursery. The girl has secured 100 per cent marks in commerce and 97 per cent in English,” Ms Patjoshi added.
The other top performers from the city are Jayasmita Roy and Arpit Agarwal from Heritage School with 97.30 per cent each, Sarah Hafeez from La Martiniere for Girls with 97.25 per cent, Poulomi Ganguly and Rohit Puri from M.P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, also with 97.25 per cent each.
Sarah said, “The news is yet to sink in as I never thought of securing such high marks. I loved to study for long hours. English, history and political science were my favourite subjects. I want to study English honours now and hope to get admission in St Xavier’s College.” On the other hand, in ICSE, Puneet Parekh of Bhawanipur Education Society has topped from the state and has secured the second position in the national level with 98.6 percent. A fan of Chetan Bhagat, Puneet said, “I had never thought that I would be among the toppers. I want to do MBA.” The other top performers from the state in ICSE are Arpita Sengupta from Barrackpore Modern English Academy with 98.4 per cent and Sagnik Banerjee from Vivekananda Mission with 97.8 per cent.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
