Main accused in police net

The main accused in the polytechnic college gangrape case has been arrested. The detective department of Asansol-Durgapur police commissionerate nabbed Soumyo Mondal from Dhanbad railway station in neighbouring Jharkhand province.

He will be produced in an Asansol court on Tuesday. Mondal is the third accused to be apprehended in the shocking case.
On October 9, a first year student of Nazrul Centenary Polytechnic College in Asansol’s Rupnarayanpur was allegedly drugged and then gangraped in the students’ union room (within the college campus).
An FIR was lodged by the victim’s father against five persons, including Mondal who is a Trinamul Chhatra Parishad leader.
The police has already arrested another student Avik Ghosh and security guard of the college Bijay Yadav alias Bholu. An outsider Mithilesh Ojha and a girl student who had taken the victim to the students union room are still absconding.
