Neturia OC helps poor kids’ puja dreams come true
The much-maligned police did a noble deed in Purulia for which it deserves a pat on the back. Following the personal initiative of the officer-in-charge of Neturia police station in Purulia, Apurba Nag, dozens of children of impoverished families also got an opportunity to celebrate Durga Puja with joy and exuberance.
The police personnel collected 46 such children mainly from SC and ST families in Raghunathpur block. They were brought to Neturia police stations and given new clothes and boxes of sweets. They were then taken for a joy ride in a bus hired for this purpose. The children were delighted when they were taken for pandal hopping by their police uncles. “We wanted these children to also soak in the festive spirit. The smile our endeavour brought to their lips was our reward,” sub divisional police officer of Raghunathpur Kuntal Banerjee said.
An 11-year old boy Deepak Barui said that his father had died when he was too small and his mother earned a paltry sum by working in some households. “New dress and puja parikarma were dreams come true thanks to police kakus,” he added.
Who said that the police could not be Good Samaritans?
