Youth who tried to rape girl, marries her
Two months ago, they were sworn enemies. Today, they are husband and wife. Both are residents of the same Salgora village in Raghunathpur police station area in Purulia district. Ganesh Sadhu intensely loved Reena Sadha but she did not reciprocate his love.
When all his attempts to woo her failed, a spurned and frustrated Ganesh accosted Reena and tried to outrage her modesty. She, however, managed to flee his clutches. This incident happened on June 11.
On June 12, her outraged family lodged an FIR with the police as a result of which Ganesh was arrested. Since then he was in jail custody and the case was pending. Meanwhile, Ganesh sent a proposal of marriage to Reena through his lawyer and family members. Reena’s parents accepted the match but there was a little hitch: Reena was still a minor.
Finally, on August 3, she celebrated her 18th birthday and a petition was moved in the Raghunathpur court that the complainant and the accused have come to a truce and agreed to marry each other. The court gave its nod and the two tied the knot first in the presence of a marriage registrar and then according to the traditional rites inside the Raghunathpur Jail premises. “Yes, the two are now legally married couple. All is well that ends well,” the controller of the jail, Rana Basu said.
