Peeping through keyhole

Call it the price of fame or simply facing the brunt of being catapulted to public life. Many well-known faces find it hard to duck the spotlight and stay out of scandals. From MMSs of Kareena Kapoor and Shahid’s lip lock to wardrobe peek-a-boos of Shriya Saran, the world has witnessed these young talented stars being dragged to courts, political forums and even their effigies being burnt!
Case in point, the recent Sakshi scandal, where alleged pictures of Mrs Dhoni smoking and partying during her college days, were leaked on the Internet. While her wedding coverage portrayed her as this girl-next-door with a strong education and values, overnight she turned into a bohemian chick with no bearings!
Director Mahesh Dattani says, “The moment you acquire fame or recognition especially in the glamour world you pay a price for it. The price is that your private life is in danger of being made public. As long as Sakshi is concerned, she was a regular girl no one was interested in her partying. But the moment she became Mrs Dhoni her lifestyle was under scrutiny. And people are now playing critic since her life is in the public gaze now.”
Amitabh Bachchan said, “We are a part of the media and one must accept that. If I am a public figure I need to be cautious about how I behave or how my code of conduct should be. I have to be well behaved. Celebrities should accept that as a part of their existence. The air is free and you are open to the public.”
Actor Hansika Motwani says that people have different yardsticks for when one is married and when one is single. Individuals should exercise discretion and be careful about how they are being perceived.
“What you do before getting married doesn’t really matter as long as you’re not marrying a star. The problem is that when you’re a known personality, everyone is looking for a scoop in your life. In Sakshi’s case, since she’s a simple girl, I don’t know why people had to dig into her past and talk about the kind of life she has had. And even if she used to smoke or party, what’s the big deal? Haven’t we all been there and done that? But in a way, it’s the price you pay for being popular. But she’s facing all of this just because she is with a star,” concludes Delhi-based model Amanpreet Wahi.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
