In the pink of health
A post work-out regimen is very important to maintain healthy skin. Chandrika Mahendra, senior research scientist at The Himalaya Drug company, shares how you can take care of your skin both before and after your workout.
Skipping your post-workout skin care routine can lead to poor skin health, plugged oil glands, acne and a dull appearance. A refreshing shower with warm water will help in detoxing your skin. A moisturising soap, enriched with almond, cucumber or honey, works best to gently remove all the dirt and perspiration. In addition to this, a few drops of oil in your bath will ensure your skin does not end up being dry and stretched. After shower, nourish and protect your skin with a light body lotion enriched with almond, neem and apricot oil.
The use of baby powder on the body, especially the more sensitive areas like chest and back, will absorb the excess oil from the surface of the skin and combat post-workout perspiration too.
Suit your skin
The cleansing-toning-moisturising routine post exercise will help tackle an eventual breakout. Follow a routine that will suit your skin type. While cleansing your face, make sure you do not strip it off its natural oils, by using a gentle soap-free cleanser. Do not be harsh while you cleanse as it may lead to irritation. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. If you have dry skin, opt for a hydrating face wash with natural ingredients like aloe vera, neem or cucumber which cleanses, tones and softens the skin. For oily skin, wash your skin with an oil-balancing face wash. Lemon is a fantastic ingredient to find in your face wash as the astringent properties help lighten the skin and control excess oil secretion. Avoid using alcohol-based toners or astringents, all of which can strip essential oil from your skin. Look for citrus lemon and mint as it cleanses your skin and makes it more receptive to moisturising.
Rehydrate and refresh
Remember to apply a moisturiser after your bath, while the skin is still damp. This helps to seal in moisture and boost the skin’s resistance towards any dirt. Choose a moisturiser specially designed for your skin type. Use a light lotion-based moisturiser to rehydrate your skin. Aloe vera, wheatgerm, a rich source of vitamin E, and cocoa butter are excellent ingredients in lotions.
Use a light skin cream that will not clog the pores in your t-zone area, which is more prone to becoming oily. Ingredients like aloe vera and winter cherry work best as they provide natural nourishment and protection.
Your skin will benefit from regular facial steams, which open up your pores and a weekly facial treatment that cleanses and moisturises. Indulging in a 15 minute D-I-Y with an enriching facial mask will work wonders.

These are great tips. I have been using kukui oil on my skin for about 6 months now and can't believe how much softer my skin is. I put it on right after showering while my skin is still slightly damp and dry skin is not longer a problem. It is a light oil and easily absorbed. Organic kukui oil is available if you search.
