For the ‘sun’sual you

It’s summertime and keeping yourself hydrated and smelling fresh is topmost on your beauty agenda. Summer fragrances are different from winter ones. We need special perfumes for summer, since these are specially designed for the heat. They are lighter and usually do not contain alcohol. Guillaume Geslin, general manager, L’Occitane which has presence in Bengaluru and other metros, tells how you can pick the one that’s just for you this summer.

Feeling floral
Keep your summer fragrance light and fresh. To keep the olfactory nerves in your nose feeling happy you can pick from a range of aromatic, aquatic, Oriental, floral and fruity ones during the summer months. The most popular summer perfumes are citrus based scents that keep the skin cool or floral perfumes that smell like blossomed flowers. Also Oriental fragrances like musk are well rounded and have extracts of the labdamum flowers. Citrus tones from the jardin plant with a lemony essence also conjure up feelings of warm tropical breezes. Floral scents from rose, petunia and cherry blossom are also light for the summer. Look for fragrances with less or no chemical and alcohol content. The more natural ingredients your perfume has, the closest they will be to the original scents. For instance, when you’re at a lavender field in France and you hold a bunch of lavender in your hand, the natural smell that you get then will be similar to the natural perfumes.

Seductive scents
Are there any specific fragrances that suit every body? Well, no not all perfumes suit all body types. Some might lead to headaches or mood swings, while others might leave you feeling bubbly and perky. It depends on an individual’s body type. If fruity citrus refreshing tones are your style, then you might not like the floral scents. And while green tea might not suit some body types, they might find mint very refreshing. That’s why most perfume companies provide a wide variety of scents. They are meant to be tried and tested to know what suits you best.

Smell of summer
Apart from natural fragrances, even eau de colognes are light for summer as compared to the eau de parfum. Those who want their perfume to last longer can apply a cherry blossom fragrance immediately after a shower. Apply the fragrance on your pulse points.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
