Update identity to stay connected
In a recent ruling passed by the Central Government one is likely to face deactivation of caller identification services unless they submit their identity proof to their respective telecom service provider. This move, which is reportedly in the interest of national security, is resulting in insinuating a feeling of irritation among customers.
Rohit Adya, CEO, Vodafone Essar, Mumbai says that this has been done keeping in mind, the security concerns and the benefit of the customers. “The deadline has been extended to October 31, keeping in mind, the mammoth task at hand. On behalf of the industry, I would like to say that it is mandatory for the customer to establish his/her identity,” says Adya, adding, “The nature of the documents must be such that they ought to have a photograph.”
He also says that the department of Telecom has been releasing notifications to alert customers for quite some time now. “Any customer who is a concerned and a law abiding citizen will definitely do the needful. We have been reminding customers through messages and calls. Moreover, knowing the identity of the person you would be talking to is extremely important, so one needs to act promptly in this case,” reasons Adya.
