Year of the Tab

Take a Tablet
The Year 2011 will be the year of the Tab. The tab is a cross between a mobile phone and a net-book. It is bigger than a mobile and smaller than the novel net-book.,

What exactly can this device be used for?
A well designed Tab can be an incredible communication centre, business tool, and an entertainment and gaming machine, e-book all in one. It’s ideal for people on the go.

So, Which one ….so many choices?
The key features one should look for are, screen size and screen resolution, operating system, and access to applications and software upgrade support. Screen size preferably 7 to 8inches, should be fairly slim, slightly bigger than the palm and smaller than the net-book. It is important that you opt for a tab which has a popular operating system to enable you to get more apps. Presently Apple IOS Android is the most popular OS followed by BlackBerry and Windows-7 too will play a important role in the tablet war.

What is the difference between a LED and LCD TV and is it worth paying more for the LED TV?
SNS, Mumbai
Basically both are similar technologies. Most LED TVs are LCD TVs with a different back-lighting technology. The panel in both is LCD flat panel. To justify the high price tag of LED TVs, makers through clever advertisement and terminology are leading the consumer to believe that it is a totally new display technology. Some of the LCD TVs with 1080 resolution and high refresh rate are better than some lower priced LED TVS. All LED TVs are not equal, the more recent ones employ the Local dimming LED back lit technology where individual groups of LEDs behind the screen can be dimmed or even turned off depending on the brightness of the content on the screen; by this manipulation these HD9High definition) LED TVs are able to produce exceptional black levels which no LCD with Fluorescent back-lit or edge-lit LED can achieve. LED back-lit LCD TVs are definitely thinner than their CCFL-lit counterparts. Presently we suggest a wait and watch strategy till the LED local dimming technology matures and the prices stabilise.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
