Sule trust to adopt abandoned baby
Member of Parliament Supriya Sule’s trust will be adopting a nine-day-old abandoned baby girl from a civil hospital in Nanded.
The MP was in Nanded campaigning for the impending Assembly polls, and in course of the campaign, she happened to visit the civil hospital. Her partymen informed her about the abandoned baby who was admitted in the hospital. Ms Sule said, “I think it is the design of destiny that the infant was abandoned and I happened to be in Nanded in the same hospital.”
According to Ms Sule, a local journalist in Yeotmal found the infant, and got in touch with the party workers. The baby is in the police custody as of now. The police is conducting an inquiry to identify her parents and also to ascertain if a single mother had abandoned the child. “Till the investigations are on, I cannot take custody of the child. Once the case reaches a finality, I will intervene.”
Since the time the news of the abandoned girl spread in Nanded, two families have already written to Ms Sule offering to adopt the child.
However, Ms Sule is cautious, she said, “I’m not going to let the baby go just because someone has volunteered to adopt her. Adoption will be done in a professional manner; all rules will be followed with help of qualified people. If we arrive at a situation where no family is found eligible, I will take her to my hometown Baramati, where she will be taken care of at Sharda Niketan, a trust we run for girls.”
