‘Serve statins free of cost with junk food’

BRITISH SCIENTISTS have suggested that fast food outlets should provide statin drugs free of charge to allow fast food lovers to eat their favourite food and neutralise the heart disease dangers of eating fatty food.
Statins are drugs used to lower cholesterol levels in people with or at risk of cardiovascular disease. They reduce the amount of unhealthy “LDL” cholesterol in the blood.
The reduction in cardiovascular risk offered by a statin is enough to offset the increase in heart attack risk from eating a cheeseburger and a milkshake, res-earchers at Imperial College London have calculated. “Statins don’t cut out all of the unhealthy effects of burgers and fries. It’s better to avoid fatty food altogether. But we’ve worked out that in terms of your likelihood of having a heart attack, taking a statin can reduce your risk to more or less the same degree as a fast food meal increases it,” Dr Darrel Francis, from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, who is the senior author of the study, said. In Britain, only one statin is already available over the counter at pharmacies without a prescription, but other statins can only be bought when prescribed by doctors.

Kardashian in drunken row with ex-lover
Los Angeles: Reality TV star Kim Kardashian had to be separated from ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush by bodyguards after he started flirting with her at a wedding and they got embroiled in a drunken argument.
Kardashian had to be separated from ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush when they got into a drunken argument at a wedding, TMZ online reported. The incident occurred when the NFL player started flirting with the socialite at the Los Angeles nuptials of his New Orleans Saints teammate Bobby McCray.
The sports star is said to have approached Kardashian and asked her about work before admitting he wanted to date her again. Kardashian, who is currently single, and Bush then got into a heated discussion which turned “aggressive” but not physical as they knocked back more drinks.
The bodyguards then had to step in to “pull Reggie away from Kim”. —PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
