A sub-divisional land and land reforms officer (SDLRO) was arrested for taking a bribe of `50,000 from a woman. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Raghunathpur in Purulia. SDLRO Dulal Das was caught red-handed accepting the bribe from a woman in a hotel.
Mr Das had sought a bribe of `1 lakh from a builder for the mutation and conversion. However, the builder complained to sub-divisional officer (SDO) Pranab Biswas who laid a trap.
Some of the notes in the bundle of currency notes were signed and according to the plan, the builder’s wife went to deliver the money to Mr Das in the hotel. Two magistrates also followed the woman. As she handed the money to Mr Das, they caught him and handed him over to the police.
Denying the charge that he had taken the bribe, Mr Das said that he was framed.
