The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday withdrew its “unconditional” support to the ruling BJD accusing the later of not giving it “due importance” in the governance of the state.
The NCP state executive committee, which met here at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of state president Utkal Keshari Parida, adopted resolution declaring that the ended its “unconditional alliance” with the BJD was over as the ruling establishment did not honour its “pre-poll” commitments made to the party.
“The BJD had assured us to accommodate our party functionaries in different forums and give due importance due our view point while taking decisions relating to protecting and promoting the state interests. But it never consulted us or respected our opinion while taking decision on crucial issues,” NCP state president Utkal Keshari Parida said.
Although four legislators of the party were present in the executive committee meeting presided over state president Utkal Keshari Parida, party legislator from Begunia Prashant Nanda left the place before the meeting apparently disagreeing to the decision of support withdrawal.
“I do not know about the support withdrawal decision. As far as I know today’s decision has no sanction of the party high command Sharad Pawar,” Mr Nanda said.
NCP Legislature Party leader Amar Prasad Satpathy, who was present in the meeting, also said he was not aware of the support withdrawal resolution.
“The decision to give or withdraw support is always taken by the party central committee. I’m not aware about the resolution,” Mr Satpathy said.
