A piece of good news for DTH subscribers! TRAI has finally addressed a couple of their grievances. In its tariff order for 2010, TRAI has brought relief to consumers from erratic rise in subscription charges. This order prevents DTH operators from increasing a consumer’s subscription charges in the first six months of enrolling; another

welcome order may soon see the light of day. The DTH operators will have to standardise the decoder boxes to enable the subscriber to switch over to another DTH operator if he desires, without incurring additional expense on a new box.
In reply to some pending petitions, TRAI has informed the Supreme Court that it plans to cap monthly cable TV charges at Rs 250, all over the country. From September onwards, DTH subscribers will no longer be victims of forced channel bouquets consisting of channels they don’t require.

How smart can you get?
Smart phones are being updated to play the role of a smart credit card, in addition to its already-existing roles. It will generate constantly-changing series of security passwords required to authorise purchases over the Internet, thus practically eliminating misuse of credit card on the Net. Online shopping will be safer now.

Robo-guards in action
The video and audio recording device is appearing in a new avatar — that of a surveillance robot. Robots are being developed to double up as security surveillance systems and super security guards. This audio-video-based system is on its way to reality.
This product has reportedly originated in Korea. These robots have automatic surveillance, and they move with endless energy around the surveillance area, immune to knives and bullets. They are an electronic-mechanical miracle — a result of the advent of hi-tech. When the robots’ super sensitive heat or motion detectors sense a possible threat, they emit an ultra-high frequency signal at lightening speed on a screen at the nearest police station or command centre where a specially-trained police officer uses the robots’ video and audio communication equipment to talk with anyone identified by the robot, before deciding whether he should command the robot to fire the gun.
Unplugged welcomes the era of robo-guards!

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
