Senior crime branch officers on Monday indicated that the noose around inspector Sanjay Shinde has tightened and he is likely to be dismissed from service for allegedly helping Vijay Palande escape from police custody. The incident took place while Palande was being brought to Mumbai from Karad on April 10. Officers said that they were also contemplating whether he could be made an accused in the case.

HC upholds John's 15-day jail term in rash driving case, releases him on probation

Actor John Abraham on Monday got relief from the Bombay high court in a 2006 rash driving case. While upholding the 15-day jail term awarded by the sessions court, the HC granted the actor relief under the Probation of Offenders Act. The actor will be on probation, and if he is involved in another rash driving case, his probation will stand suspended. He will also have to pay `10,000 compensation to the two victims in the case.
